Here is an interesting counter script that is open source. You need a server that supports php5. So if you want something more advanced then our counters and don't want to use Google Analytics - check out piwik.org.
In fact, SourceForge is offering it: Sourceforge offers Piwik to 150,000 Open Source projects! - Piwik Good luck PiWik!
