You need to read the the entire thread but it is something that is very good to read IMHO and you need to be a member of WMW to read it. So if you are part of it here is the link:

So, a couple of months ago I bought three cheap domains, cloaked one, and rented links for all of them.

All the sites are in competitive arenas. All of them filled with cheap content or repurposed content, all of them nothing but aff sites. Lots of ads. Nothing new, nothing 'quality' about them.

They broke even last week. Making a profit this week. Aff sites, with #*$! for content. All of them with at least twenty phrases in the top 5, in less than 90 days.

For all those planning such experiments to teach Google a lesson, if you want maximum impact, I'd suggest outlining your plan publicly in the Google Webmaster Forum itself. I guess this is enough matter to say this works!
