Default Broke my validation? :?:

I want to use your counter and have installed the code, but now I am not able to validate my page with the WDG HTML/XML validator. I tried changing all the & to & but it still doesn't validate. Do you know what can be done to fix this?

You can see the validator results at the following URL:

http://www.htmlhelp.com/cgi-bin/vali...bler.com/blog/

Looks like some of the table attributes are incorrect... I'm going to try adding quotes around the 0's but I think it will not validate after doing that.

I'm also worried that if I change it up too much, the counter won't work or I won't be eligible for your contests...

Hi,

I should pass validation. I just changed the code and tested on the site that you mentioned:

http://www.htmlhelp.com/cgi-bin/vali...l&warnings=yes

Just log in to you control panel and copy the new code as it is automatically generated when the page is created.

Thanks for pointing this out to us.

It's much closer now! Thanks for the speedy response!

You may want to change the case of TYPE to type, as that came up as an error for me when running the validator. I also had to escape out all the ampersands so they read & and add an "end tag" to the
so it reads
.

I'm still getting some errors about the image src tag, though. Not sure how to fix it. Follow this link to see the errors:

http://www.htmlhelp.com/cgi-bin/vali...bler.com/blog/

BTW, I am validating to the DocType of XHTML 1.0 Transitional.

Okay. I will check it with XHTML 1.0 Transitional and report back soon.

I took a look at this and the problem is that xhtml does not like document.write. I'll need to use DOM and this is totally new to me. I'll continue to look into this to see if it is possible to get it working and validated at the same time.

I'll report back once I can do some more research and testing on it.

Update:

I've got a test page validated:

http://www.branica.com/valid.html

http://www.htmlhelp.com/cgi-bin/vali...l&warnings=yes

I have not implemented the code yet as I am doing some more testing to ensure that everything is okay. I expect to have this done in a few days.

Wow, I am so completely impressed with your support! I work as a tech support agent so I know how tough it can be to troubleshoot a problem and get a fix or workaround put together.

You are truly incredible to have such a fast response to this issue, when you could have just said "Hey, the code is the way it is and if you want to validate to a higher standard that's your problem!"

I'll be watching for an update with the new code so I can get it on my page!

I was about to say that late last night  . But it fell into place with a little outside help. And I think it will be a nice difference between our counters and others.

It is tested already but will take my time to test the performance aspects of it.

I will be implementing the change this coming weekend. I will be sending an email to all users once this change is in.

Update:

I have updated the code so it is now 4.01 XHTML 1.0 Transitional valdidated with the WDG HTML/XML validator. Those of you reading this post can now go in and pick up the new code.

An email to everyone will most likely go out on Sunday. This is NOT a necesary code change unless you want you page to pass validation.
