I am a big fan of Amazon Prime and Amazon Kindle. With the announcement of Amazon Owners' Lending Library, it is now possible to
NEVER purchase a book from Amazon as long the program continues in its current format.
How?
- Buy an Amazon Kindle. The cheapest Kindle is $79 which includes some Amazon advertising - they do not interrupt reading at all.
- Sign-up for Amazon Prime which has a bunch of great features beyond the Lending Library: 2 Day Shipping, Free Streaming of TV and Movies. The cost is $79 per year which is the only recurring cost you will have to pay. BTW, you get one month free of Prime when you buy a Kindle!
Ok so for $160 initial outlay - $79 per year for Amazon Prime. You can borrow 1 book a month.
Let's take a hypothetical example. 12 books at the usual Amazon Kindle price of $10 per e-book (some are more or less). That would be $120 per year! So prior to Amazon's Lending Library you would have ponied up an additional $120 per year at least if you read as much as I do.
Another way to think about this is that with Prime + a Kindle. You get a book a month, 2-day shipping on most Amazon items, free streaming TV show and movies. Really one of the best deals on the planet for those who read a lot, buy from Amazon and like to watch streaming TV shows and movies.
