I ran my first sprint triathlon at the
Timberman in New Hampshire. I really didn't train that much which shows in my times. But I did swim at least three times and biked four times!
I have to say that the event overall was really good. Well run, organized, and good after event food etc.
Now on to the race.
The swim was 0.3 miles and the swim was really hard. I mean really hard and my bad swimming form did not help at all. It was really safe as they had people on kayaks and paddle boards around us at all times. But boy I am glad it was on a lake - ocean would have been tough with waves. There was a few times that I thought I could have drowned! Why? Someone mentioned that parts of the swim was shallow enough to stand and I mistakenly tried to stand where it was too deep to stand. Bad mistake!
Ok onto the 15 mile bike ride. Here is tip if you don't think you need to goto the bathroom before the start of the race - just go! I had to pee (a lot) during my transition and it showed during my transition times. The bike ride was good but it was pretty hilly. I did as good as I thought I could and averaged about 16 mph.
I had better transition into the run from the bike. No bathroom break! I finished the 5k run a little over 20 minutes - my personal best. I run under 7 minutes miles another personal best! So I was pretty happy with the run piece of it.
Overall it was a great event and I really enjoyed it. I am planning to another sprint or a half-tri next year after my marathon runs.
