This article is a bit dated but largely correct. The term has changed to PPC or pay-per-click and Google now rules the market. I would suggest lots of research and homework before tackling PPC since you could lose a lot of money quickly if you don't know what you are doing. You need to savy about how each PPC engine works, ad copy, landing page copy, etc.
