Once upon a time, just a few short years ago, earning backlinks was one of the easiest things to do as a person in charge of a website. All you needed to do was to send a few emails, promise to backlink in return, maybe pay a couple of quid here or there. Or before that, you could simply get a little “spammy”, hitting up link aggregators and random Russian forums and posting your link all over the place.
Life was simpler then.
